Boone County Family YMCA
In 2004, the Boone County Hospital, along with community leaders from the Boone area, approached the YMCA of Greater Des Moines and proposed the idea of converting Heartland into a full service YMCA. On September 1, 2005, the Boone County Family YMCA became the ninth branch of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.
The new Boone County Family YMCA is located at 608 Carroll Street in Boone. The Boone County YMCA offers a wide variety of programs for all ages from infants to older adults.
YMCA programs:
• build character and assets in kids,
• strengthen family relationships and
• promote healthy lifestyles.
The YMCA of Greater Des Moines was founded in 1868 and has had a presence in Boone since 1919 when Y Camp was founded. Financial assistance is offered so that no one is turned away from the YMCA due to an inability to pay.
