South Suburban YMCA
Our South Suburban branch YMCA was originally founded in 1969 and moved to its current location on East Army Post Road in 1997. You’ll discover a wide array of programs for the entire family at the South Suburban branch, which primarily serves the south part of Des Moines, Norwalk, Carlisle and Indianola.
Traditional programs include youth sports, child care, day camp, teen programs, many preschool activities, Tae Kwon Do, and a variety of fitness classes.
The facilities include a swimming pool, three family changing rooms, a fitness center with a climbing wall, aerobics studio, gymnasium, Character Zone, cardio spinning room and multi-purpose room. Child Watch is available for small children while their parents participate in programs.
In June 2006 a four-lane family-fun swimming pool was added. This pool has the capacity to serve the needs of lap swimmers and recreational swimmers. Adult water exercise classes and swimming lessons are now part of the program offerings for your family to get involved with.
