Founded in 1868, the YMCA of Greater Des Moines is the oldest non-profit organization in Des Moines. The Y strengthens the foundations of community by focusing on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors.
That's why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side by side with our neighbors in our community to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
The YMCA of Greater Des Moines has 11 branches located throughout central Iowa and serves 84,000 people annually. Thanks to our many generous contributors, no one is turned away due to inability to pay.
