YMCA Supportive Housing Campus Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
Des Moines, Iowa – The YMCA Supportive Housing Campus (YSHC) will host an open house for the facility’s one-year anniversary on Thursday, July 26.
The open house will be held at the campus location at 2 SW 9th Street from 3-7 p.m. A short program will be held at 5:30 p.m., and will be highlighted by an announcement of a gift to the YSHC. Parking at the site is limited but the nearby Wells Fargo parking garage is open after 5 p.m., and free parking on the streets begins after 6 p.m.
The celebration will include a BBQ, facility tours and an opportunity to learn more about the mission and needs of the YSHC. Individuals attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to help stock the YSHC’s food pantry.
The downtown Des Moines campus has 140 individual efficiency apartment units for adult men and women. While the Y surrounds the 140 tenants with supportive services such as case management, YMCA rental assistance, peer support groups, food/clothing pantries, and transportation assistance, many of the residents require additional assistance.
In addition to the efficiency apartment units, the YSHC facility includes classrooms, counseling suites, library, small workout room, laundry facilities, and dining area.
