WATERBABIES is a parent/child water adjustment class that provides a special structured fun time for adults and infants. Objectives of the program are fun, exercise, parent education, water adjustment and safety. An instructor will lead the class in a group setting. At least one adult must be in the water with their child during the class time. (6 months-3 yrs. old)
PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS are for children 3-5 years of age. There are 4 levels available: PIKE, EEL, RAY or STARFISH. These levels are listed in order of Pike is the beginner level and starfish is our advanced level. We have a 1 to 4 student-teacher ratio. We focus on water safety, water exploration, and the basic strokes.
SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS are for children 6-13 years of age. There are 6 levels available: POLLIWOG, GUPPY, MINNOW, FISH, FLY FISH or SHARK. The levels are listed in order of beginner Polliwog to advanced Shark level. We have a 1 to 6 student-teacher ratio.
New swimmer evaluation night has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 at 6:45 PM.
Swimmers must wear proper swimwear and are highly encouraged to wear goggles as well. Swim team requirements vary depending on each child's age.

Ankeny Family YMCA Pool
Our pool is 25 yards with 8 lanes. Our shallow end of the pool is 3.75 feet deep and goes down to 8 feet deep in the deep end. We do not allow diving in our pool due to our pool depth requirements. Our pool temperature is 82 degrees.
Open Swim – Ages 14 & under must wear a swim necklace provided by the YMCA and return after use. Those who pass the swim test wear a green necklace and have full pool access. Those who do not pass/take the swim test must wear a red necklace. Ages 9-14 who don’t pass/take the swim test must stay in the shallow end. Ages 8 & under who don’t pass/take the swim test MUST have IN-WATER SUPERVISION w/in arm’s length of an adult age 16+
