Our swimming pools are a prime example of how we are utilizing community partnerships to serve and strengthen our community. In addition to Y member services and programming, we host competitive swim teams from both Simpson College and Indianola High School. Our pools serve a full range of community needs, from waterbabies and swim lessons learning to be safe and confident around the water to competitive teams working towards personal and team achievement to adults striving for a healthy lifestyle through water exercise, lap swim, and aquatic therapy.
Water Polo at the Y
We are partnering with Des Moines Water Polo Inc. this spring to bring water polo programs to the Y for both youth and Adults! Check out our flyers below
Adult Swim EXPLORE is for people who want to or are just starting to get comfortable in the water. Participants will learn safety skills and stroke technique. Their goal will be to become more confident in the water along with have the ability to float, tread and be able to swim a length of the pool. Swimmers will be lead by a well trained and experienced instructor.
Adult Swim ENHANCE is for swimmers just starting to lap swim. Participants will learn how to plan a great workout and learn the skills it takes to be a competitive swimmer. Swim workouts and stroke technique will be lead by a well trained and experienced coach both in the water and on deck. Their main goal will to be the ability to swim longer distances, multiple stokes, and create their own swimming workouts by the end of the program.
Adult Swim EXCEL is a challenging workout for experienced swimmers. Participants will get an intense workout while enjoying the support and being pushed by fellow classmates and coaches. Swim workouts and stroke technique will be lead by a well trained and experienced coach. This group will also have three ability groups within the program that will be based on speed and stroke technique but all groups will work together throughout the class.
Did you know that drowning is the 2nd leading cause of death in children age 1-14? This is a staggering statistic and one where we know that we can make a difference! The Y is an accessible community resource to teach kids to be safe and confident around water. Through Y Swim Lessons, in addition to water safety instruction, participants learn new swimming skills, gain a sense of achievement, build connections with others, and increase physical activity levels. Swim lessons are about more than learning to swim!
We are blessed to serve a community with so many different user groups interested in utilizing our pools. With so many different needs to meet, our pool is the most programmed and scheduled area of our facility. We strive to use our pool space efficiently and to serve as many of our members' needs as possible. It is important that you are aware of the pool schedule so we post it... online, app, and at the front desk.
