Aerobics Studio: The Aerobic Studio is a 1400 square foot room with a wood spring loaded floor that holds a variety of equipment for group exercise classes. Zumba, Body Pump, Cardio Kickboxing, Bosu and Cardio/Strength classes are among the favorites.
Wellness Center: Our fitness center is divided into three sections. The cardio area is comprised of 25+ Precor cardio equipment, ranging from elipticals to arc trainers, bikes and treadmills.
Strength Equipment: Our 19 free-motion pieces of strength equipment make up the second portion of our fitness center. Ab crunch, back extension, rotary torso, tricep press, bicep curl, hip abd/adduction, leg curl, leg extension, step up, assisted dip/chin up, flys, seated row, lat pulldown/high row, shoulder press, chest press, leg press, squat, and seated calf raise make up our middle section. In the back of the fitness center, we have our dumbbell rack with weights as low as 2 lbs to as high as 180 lbs, two smith machines, one squat rack, three flat bench presses, one incline, one decline, reverse back extension and three adjustable moveable benches. Along with those are our bosu balls, stability balls, jump ropes, med balls and resistance bands.
Learn & Play Center: The South Suburban YMCA Learn & Play Center provides a safe and nurturing place for children to learn, grow and thrive while parents enjoy time to focus on their own healthy lifestyle. Children have the opportunity to interact with others, work on developmental skills and build relationships with caring adult staff, who are trained in CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Management . We promise to partner and support our Y families by helping them nurture the potential of every child.
Cycle Studio: The Cycling Studio is an 800 square foot room with 12 cycling bikes. Classes are either 35 or 45 minutes long, with many different days and times available to choose from.
Gym: The gym has six basketball hoops and a gym curtain divider. This allows for two full-court basketball games to be played. We also have capabilities for volleyball nets to be set up. Friday mornings in the gym are reserved for Pickleball games. In addition to Pickleball, the gym is used for some group exercise classes such as Active Older Adults and H.E.A.T.
Pool: The South Suburban YMCA pool has four 25-yard lanes that go to 5 feet deep and a shallow well that has a zero-foot entry and goes to a depth of 3 feet; There are also water buckets on this side of the pool.; On deck, there are three family changing rooms; - one that is handicap accessible. There is a shower and other amenities within the family changing rooms, including lockers on the outside of them.
Multi Purpose Room: The Multi Purpose Room is used for numerous classes and activities; Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Classes, and Summer Camp activities are held in the Multi Purpose Room
Functional Fitness Room: This room includes the TRX Training Zone. TRX builds functional strength and improve flexibility, balance and core stability. This room also has a punching bag, medicine balls, dumbbells, a battle rope, jump ropes, and much more.
South Lobby: The lobby of the South Suburban YMCA is the central meeting place of the facility and features the Welcome Center desk.
Pavilion: The pavilion at the South Suburban YMCA is used for a variety of youth programs and as a social gathering place.
Community Playground: The playground area is used by the South Suburban Summer Day Camp program and the Child Watch children. It is also open for community use.
Back Green Space: Behind the South Suburban YMCA are athletic fields and green space which is used by Child Watch children, Summer Day Camp and community events.
