The Waukee Family YMCA proudly provides classes within our wellness department for all ages! Check out our group exercise classes, which are a great way to build community and wellness accountability in a group setting and are included in your membership fees at no additional cost. In addition to classes, our wellness center is equipped with a full range of cardio equipment including treadmills, elliptical, Arc Trainers, bikes, row machines and AMTs. We offer weight machine circuits; Freemotion and Strive and an extensive free weight room.

New Class Offerings:
" Piece of Pie" Pieathlon Training Program: Are you wanting to train for the YMCA Pieathlon? Do you have a set game plan? Would you like to join a fun group of individuals with a common goal? This training group is just for YOU! Our program will prepare you for a sprint triathlon and leads up to the Pieathlon. Your coaches will prepare you by training you in all three sports of swimming, biking, and running. Online training programs included. This training group will be led by Jason Wulf with a kick– off meeting on March 20, 2017.
"Fit 4 Me" Appointments
At the Waukee YMCA we want you to be successful on your wellness journey. To aid in this, we offer all of our members a free "Fit 4 Me" appointment. "Fit 4 Me" is for our members who want support to reach healthy living goals. Whether you want to jump start your healthy living journey or you need an extra boost to your current routine, wellness coaching is for you!
You will meet one-on-one with a Wellness Coach to help create a plan to get you on track to achieve your wellness goals and help you get connected with the Y whether it’s attending a new group exercise class or making sure you know how to use all of the equipment properly. At your first meeting your coach’s priority is to listen to your story. You’ll have an opportunity to share your likes and dislikes and talk about your goals. Best of all, this program is free for Y members and you can meet with your Wellness Coach throughout the duration of your membership.

Group Exercise Classes
The YMCA offers many classes to help support you in your pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. Zumba, Yoga, Barre, Pilates, Cycling, BodyPump, & Heat are just some of the classes we offer. In addition to the dozens of classes offered each week at the Waukee YMCA, hundreds of classes are accessible to you at our metro locations. Group Exercise classes are included in your member fees. Anyone 14 years of age or older may participate in classes. Youth ages 8-13 must participate with an adult.
Premium Fitness Classes- Spring Into A Fresh Start! Spring Session Starts the week of March 20th!
YMCA Premium Fitness Classes are designed as a personalized training experience in a group environment. Led by Personal Trainers, who use their knowledge and expertise to provide classes ensuring a quality experience where you can feel confident that you are receiving world class instruction based on your individualized needs. Instructors demonstrate proper form, add personalized modifications, scan participants for safety, and provide you with visual, verbal, and manual cues as needed throughout the class. Through YMCA Premium Fitness Classes you will receive a safe and valuable workout experience, small class sizes, see the results you desire, and connect with other members. There are fees for premium classes and minimum and maximum number of participants.
Warrior Fit- 5:00am, 6:00am, & 9:15 offerings
Warrior Fit is a high intensity workout that will challenge your fitness abilities both physically and mentally. Warrior Fit is for those who are looking to advance their workout and push themselves harder with maximum effort.
Youth Fit Club- 4:30pm
This program is designed for youth participants , ages 11-14, who are interested in staying fit, getting, fit, building strength, and working on speed and agility. Participants engage in dynamic warm up routines, plyometric and agility drills, and weight lifting exercises in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Personal Trainers will prescribe exercise progressions that will keep safety a priority.
Tread Zone- 9:30am & Noon
Tread Zone is taking treadmill workouts to a whole new level. This class will provide a whole body workout by using the treadmills to run at different elevations, speeds, and intensities, combined with resistance bands, weights, and plyometrics to keep a constant burn throughout. Tread Zone will keep your body guessing as well as give you a tough workout with camaraderie of a group fitness class in a small class setting. Limited class availability!
Women on Weights- 10:45am
Our "women only" class will connect and educate you as group on the importance of switching up your workout routine. This small group class is led by a personal trainer who will teach the proper form and strength training techniques. This class will leave you feeling confident and comfortable in establishing and continuing a workout routine using free weights as well as circuit training equipment. If you are looking to get stronger, this class is for you!
Tae Kwon Do-
Tae Kwon Do is said to be the most practiced martial art in the Western World and classes are available in almost every city in the United States. When you start training in TKD, you are embarking on a path that will be unlike anything you have ever undertaken. It takes perseverance and self control-- two of the five tenants you will learn through TKD that will help you in many aspects of your life. Class information Here.
We all have different goals and needs. Sometimes the expertise of a fitness professional is needed to help with program plan development, motivation, or accountability. All Y Personal Trainers are nationally certified and trained to help you meet your fitness goals with an individualized exercise prescription and coaching. Your first session will involve a fitness assessment, consultation, and program design to make sure that you are getting what you want and need from your trainer.
