YMCA Learn & Play Centers (formerly known as Child Watch) provide a safe and nurturing place for children to learn, grow and thrive while parents enjoy time to focus on their own healthy lifestyle. Children have the opportunity to interact with others, build relationships with caring adult staff and work on developmental skills. We promise to partner and support our Y families by helping them nurture the potential of every child.
Our Learn & Play Centers serve children from 6 weeks to 9 years old. This service is included with a YMCA Family Membership and available while parents or caregivers are utilizing the YMCA programs, facilities and services. There is a two-hour maximum time limit per day, and hours are subject to change. Please check with your local branch for details on hours and offerings (links and contact info below).
Children learn through playing.
In our Learn & Play Centers we create opportunities to challenge and nurture children through their different developmental levels.
Parents are encouraged to communicate any learning techniques that work well with their child and areas where support may be needed.
Today’s children need role models who will encourage, support and challenge them to grow into trusted friends, respectful sons and daughters and caring neighbors.
Our caring and committed staff serve as role models in helping your child learn and grow.
Our staff guide children on how to interact with others and how to make friends and be a good friend.
Positive relationships are based on trust and caring for others. Respectful relationships between parents and the Learn & Play staff help model expectations for our children.
Children learn and practice the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to provide a foundation on which to build life-long success.
Staff use consistent language, role model values, guide with reminders and redirect when appropriate.
Learn & Play Center staff modeling our core values on a regular basis helps further reinforce what is taught in our Y family homes.
In order for all children to receive our staff attention to learn, grow and thrive, please partner with us by ensuring your child is clean, fed and ready to engage with others prior to check-in at our Learn & Play Center.
All Y staff are screened with background checks, and certified in Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED, and Universal Precautions.
