May 14 was a chilly morning but that didn’t stop Pieathlon participants (50 adults and 40 youth) from taking the plunge into the pool and venturing outside afterward! Congratulations and thank you to all who participated in our annual sprint triathlon. Pieathlon is more than an athletic event — it highlights community members' journeys through difficult life challenges and shows how a healthy lifestyle and community of support found at the Y can make the road a little easier.
Each year, the event spotlights Y members who have become testaments to that notion. This year our very own Cherrie Willems, who works at the Waukee Y Welcome Center, spoke about her family's journey and how they coped during her husband's battle with cancer. Thank you, Cherrie (pictured below with children Logan and Hayley), for sharing your story.
The day was full of fun times, first experiences and lasting memories for all. Plus, 168 pieces of pie were gone by noon.
