Before he came to the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus, John was experiencing homelessness after losing family members. His eyesight also began to fail during his time outdoors, but fortunately John was assisted by a social worker and was able to have eye surgery just before he moved in to Y-SHC. The surgery made getting adjusted a bit difficult in the beginning: "I’m sorry to anyone I’ve ever bumped into here," John explains. "I didn’t mean it!"
John says he's happiest when he gets to go to the doctor and they inform him that he’s doing well. You’ll probably see John outside, as he loves to walk briskly in sunny, fair weather.
"I got locked inside myself when I lived on the streets," John recalls. "I'm coming out of it now because I love to be around people. It's wonderful what you do here!"
