Being cooped up inside during what seems like a never-ending winter can leave both parents and kids feeling bored and sluggish. The solution? Mommy and Me exercise class!
Mommy and Me engages little ones in stimulating play while Mom has a chance to find her fit during classes led by certified instructors. All fitness levels are welcome; modifications are taught, and moms are encouraged to go at their own pace. From push-ups and planks while leaning in to give your babe a kiss, to squats that include pressing babies overhead, you will enjoy a fun, fast-paced workout that will have your child giggling with delight.
Need more reasons to join? Here are four benefits of exercising with your baby:
Parents who exercise with their children are not only teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle, they are also reinforcing the family bond. Many people view their family obligations as an obstacle to exercise instead of an opportunity. When children exercise alongside parents from a very young age, it establishes exercise as a normal, everyday activity that all family members can enjoy.
Development through music
Mommy and Me classes incorporate fun music, which contributes to the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of babies and children and strengthens cognitive and sensory skills.
Mommy and Me class allows kids (and adults) to interact with others and exposes babies to new people, sights and sounds. These interactions help babies discover how others react to their behaviors, a critical element of social development.
Reducing postpartum depression
According to recent studies, 1 in 7 mothers suffer from postpartum depression. Exercise elevates your endorphins, which helps alleviate depression symptoms. It’s an all-natural form of mood therapy. Research indicates that new moms who stay physically active after birth experience fewer depressive symptoms.
The moms in our Mommy and Me class are showing their children that you can have fun while taking care of yourself! Check with your Welcome Center staff for more information and if your branch has an upcoming session.
