The new Pilates Studio at the Wellmark Y packs a lot of fitness into each one-hour session
Improved endurance, flexibility, postural alignment and coordination … these are just a few of the benefits of Pilates training. On April 1, the Wellmark Y opened a Pilates Studio featuring state-of-the-art equipment that provides a full-body workout with a focus on increasing core strength.
During a studio session, Pilates trainers guide participants through a series of low-impact exercises on one of three Pilates reformers – bed-like frames with rolling platforms, springs, straps and pulleys. On the reformer, you use adjustable resistance and your own body weight to target specific muscles with slow, controlled movements. As in yoga, connecting breath to movement helps you concentrate and maintain muscle engagement.
Pilates training is available to any Y member or program participant age 12 or older (bonus: Y members pay a reduced rate!). You can train one-on-one with an instructor, or as part of a group of two or three. Training times are arranged to fit your schedule.
