Spencer Cox Receives YMCA of Greater Des Moines Inaugural Tom Hamilton Spirit Award
Spencer Cox of West Des Moines has been named the inaugural recipient of the Tom Hamilton YPartners Spirit Award from theYMCA of Greater Des Moines.
Cox (center in photo) was recognized for his life-long support of the Y Camp in Boone County. A third-generation camper, Cox began attending camp as a young child with his parents and grandparents and continues attending to this day with his wife, Stephanie, and their four children.
For the past eight years, Cox has chaired the YPartners annual fundraising for the Y Camp. Under his leadership, the Y Camp has raised more than $1.7 million over that time period, including $268,285 this year. Cox is the vice chair of the Y Camp Board and is also currently chairing the camp’s Legacy Planned Giving Campaign.
The Tom Hamilton YPartners Spirit Award is named for Tom Hamilton, a key leader, volunteer, donor, member and advocate of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines who died in 2011. For decades, Hamilton advocated the virtues of the Y throughout Des Moines, while raising funds that helped underprivileged children and families become part of the Y.
The Tom Hamilton Spirit Award will be annually bestowed on a Y volunteer who has “a passion to tell the Y story, a drive to motivate other campaign volunteers, a desire to renew all previous donor pledges, the energy to find new donors to grow the fundraising campaign, and a commitment that never waivers.”
Thank you, Spencer, for your unwavering support for the Y.
