On Saturday, April 28 (10am-2pm), the Waukee YMCA along with Iowa Health – Blank Children’s Hospital is holding Healthy Kids Day®, the nation’s largest health day for kids and their families. This free community event will feature fun, educational activities for families to improve health and well-being such as all designed to inspire kids and families to stay physical and intellectually active all summer long.
Community Expo Organizations from our area that share in the mission of keeping our kids physically and intellectually engaged all summer long will be invited to have a table and interactive activities for families from 10am to 2pm.
Outside Community Expo: Severe Weather Simulator, Bike Rodeo (Weather Permitting)
Physical Challenges Physical activities for all ages every hour on the 20 Trust challenge, Jump rope challenge, Obstacle course challenge, Relay races
Nutritional Challenges Nutritional demos and activities every hour on the 40 Making Family Fun Snacks, Food Plate Challenge, Make your favorite Family recipe healthy challenge and Fun with Fruits and vegetables
Action Challenges: Come and play with us! The Waukee Family YMCA and other organizations from the area will host demo and games to show how to work and play hard.
Research shows that kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically over the summer months if they are not engaged in activities that stimulate the mind and body.
As part of the Y’s commitment to strengthening community by addressing critical gaps in health and education, the Waukee Family YMCA is holding Healthy Kids Day to help parents begin to think about ways to keep their kids healthy and sharp when out of school, particularly in the Summer.
