Healthy Kids, a program starting at the YMCA of Greater Des Moines this spring, will make families healthier by teaching children how to achieve a healthier weight.
The 12-week session provides a foundation for lifetime, healthy living weight management. Participants learn how to increase daily physical activity, while meal plans with kid-tested recipes are provided.
The program addresses diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, early puberty, psychological problems and other risks associated with obesity.
Children participating in “Healthy Kids” are required to attend with their parent(s)/guardian(s). The first two weeks of the program will be held Mondays from 6-7:30 p.m. at the YMCA Healthy Living Center in Clive. Afterwards, participants will attend Tuesday evening sessions (5:30-7 p.m.) at Clive Elementary at 1600 73rd Street in Windsor Heights.
The cost is $30 per child/parent and includes a 12-week YMCA of Greater Des Moines family membership.
“Healthy Kids” is made possible through donations from the Iowa Heart Foundation and CarMax.
