“This is the community’s opportunity to come experience how the Y is strengthening communities through providing access to a healthier lifestyle, investing in our youth and fostering the idea of social responsibility,” said Scott Kruthoff, executive director of the Indianola YMCA.
YMCA professionals from the nine YMCA of Greater Des Moines branches will be in attendance to interact with community members, share general information about the Y programs and services, and seek questions and feedback from the community.
Inaugural memberships to the Indianola Y will be on sale and community members will learn how they can play a role in shaping the Y’s future in Indianola through employment, program and volunteer opportunities.
“The strength of any Y is truly found in the community and the individuals that support it,” Kruthoff said. “This will be a wonderful opportunity for Indianola to learn more about the Y and how we strive to make a difference not only in people’s lives, but in the community.”
The Indianola YMCA is scheduled to open Monday, Aug. 26, and is a collaborative effort between the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, the City of Indianola, Simpson College and the Indianola Community School District. The 62,000-square-foot facility is currently under construction near the corner of Highway 65/69 and Hillcrest in Indianola.
