Everyone's life, in some way, has been touched by cancer.
When YMCA member Kathy Ford decided to run a leg of the 4000-mile Million Dollar Marathon this summer to raise awareness about cancer, the first person she called was her sister-in-law, a seven-year survivor
"I told her, I'm going to be thinking of you this entire run,” Kathy said. “She has the strength to be so positive for so long, I can run 26 miles."
Kathy is one of 160 participants in Above and Beyond Cancer’s Million Dollar Marathon relay, which is now underway. One marathon at a time, the team of cancer survivors and supporters will cross 15 states and more than 500 communities.
“In the next year, nearly 600,000 people in America will die of cancer. The American Cancer Society has determined that one-third of these deaths are the result of poor diet and lack of exercise. The Million Dollar Marathon has been organized to educate the public about this issue through an event that is inspirational and motivational.”
