DES MOINES, Iowa – Rainy days aren’t so gloomy at the South Suburban YMCA in Des Moines. That’s because organizers have implemented “rain art” onto the sidewalks.
“It’s a hydrophobic coating that resists water, leaving an outline of whatever design you make with it,” said executive director Tyler Weig.
On rainy days like Tuesday, the sidewalk lights up with art – “Stay Positive,” “Commit to be Fit,” and “Today is a New Day,” are several messages found outlined in the water. Raindrops and an umbrella covering the Des Moines skyline are other designs that can be found, as well.
Weig says it’s just another simple feature the South Suburban YMCA has added recently to spruce up its image and add some character to the community center. And if it’s not a rainy day, fear not – there’s always a group of kids eager to hose down the sidewalk for you.
