DES MOINES, IOWA (Feb. 4, 2016) Last week, YMCA of Greater Des Moines volunteers, campaigners, members and staff gathered to officially launch the association’s 2016 Annual Campaign. This year’s Annual Campaign chair, volunteer Dan Kramer, inspired the group to work together toward the association’s $1.5 million goal. Y representatives shared strategies for success, several individuals shared personal stories of how the Y has impacted their lives, and the association debuted the kickoff edition of Kids News Today.
The YMCA’s Kids News Today is a weekly online news program designed to shine a brighter light on the Y’s Annual Campaign, which helps provide financial assistance and scholarships to those in need – so everyone has access to the Y. The program features engaging young news anchors who provide Annual Campaign fundraising updates, highlight volunteers and share information about the campaign.
Each Friday in February, look for the kid newscasters in a new online episode. Y supporters can be a part of the excitement by following the series on the YMCA’s homepage, Facebook Page, YouTube channel, and Twitter. The next episode will come out tomorrow, Feb. 5.
When you donate to the YMCA Annual Campaign, you make central Iowa better through programs focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Youth Development: All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. We see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning and development – all grounded in the Y’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Healthy Living: The Y helps people and families build and maintain a healthy spirit, mind and body. By helping kids, adults, families and seniors from all walks of life improve their health and well-being, we are building a stronger community.
Social Responsibility: With our doors open to all, we bring together people from all backgrounds, and support those who need us most. We take on the most urgent needs in our community and inspire a spirit of service in return. Our members, volunteers, supporters and staff demonstrate the power of what we can achieve by giving back together.
