DES MOINES, Iowa (May 10, 2016) The YMCA of Greater Des Moines announced today veteran business leader Dave Schwartz has been hired as CEO. Schwartz currently serves as president and CEO of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce.
“Dave brings a unique combination of business acumen and nonprofit experience to our organization,” YMCA Board Chairman Clarence Hudson noted. “When you combine that with his lifetime commitment to community, and the passion and energy he brings to everything he touches, we knew he was the right person to help us take a quantum leap forward.”
Since joining the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce in 2014, Schwartz increased revenue by over 40 percent. He developed Elevate, a professional women’s organization celebrating the power of women in leadership, and originated the Business Roundtable for the small to mid-sized business owner. He also partnered with the city in the development of the city’s 2036 Vision. Recently, Schwartz was named one of three finalists for Executive of the Year by the Mid-America Chamber Executives.
“The YMCA of Greater Des Moines is a wonderful community asset that has the ability to change lives,” Schwartz said. “We all know the positive impact it has had over its first 147 years of existence here in Central Iowa. But, as we look ahead, this is an organization that will continue to impact community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.”
Prior to his work with the Chamber, Schwartz was a co-founder and president of Bearence Management Group in West Des Moines, and was a managing director with Marsh & McLennan Companies. He also has significant fundraising experience with the Dowling/St. Joseph Foundation and the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota.
