The veteran coach and All-American swimmer will help redefine competitive swimming in Central Iowa, Y officials say
DES MOINES, Iowa – (Sept. 19, 2017) – The YMCA of Greater Des Moines announced today the hiring of Frankie Hanson as Operations Director for Aquatics. In this role, Hanson will oversee all the Association’s competitive swim programs, pools, swim lessons and life guarding.
Hanson, the head girls swimming & diving coach at Dowling Catholic High School and assistant coach of USA Dowling Catholic Riptide swim club, was an All-American swimmer at the University of Kansas and an Olympic Trial qualifier. She was a 13-time high school All-American while competing at Dowling and a five-time state champion.
“We’re so excited to have Frankie join our team,” said Dave Schwartz, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. “With the addition of our competitive and lap pools downtown, we are in a strong position to redefine competitive swimming in Central Iowa and continue to lead the way in swim lessons and life guard training.”
In addition to her work in the swimming community in Des Moines, Hanson previously served as the Senior Health & Fitness Director at the YMCA of Silicon Valley in Mountain View, California. In that position, she worked to expand swimming programs in the community and expand the facility while creating new programs for members.
“I view this as a great opportunity to join a terrific group at the Y and help set the tone for swimming in our community,” Hanson noted. “We have a lot of quality swim programs throughout the area and I feel this is a chance to bring many of the talented athletes and coaches together to really put Des Moines swimming on the national map.”
