The clinic is being held in conjunction with the TYR Pro Swim Series event March 6-9 in Des Moines.
Ironman champion and Tyr-sponsored triathlete T.J. Tollakson of Des Moines will host an open-water swim clinic for kids on Friday evening, February 8 at the MidAmerican Energy Company Aquatic Center at the Wellmark YMCA in downtown Des Moines.
Tollakson’s appearance at the clinic also will promote the Tyr Pro Swim Series event being held March 6-9 at the YMCA’s Prairie Meadows Pool, the metro’s only indoor Olympic-size pool. More than 300 of the world’s top swimmers – including Olympic medalists, world champions and members of the U.S. national team – will be in Des Moines to compete for prize money in the event, which is sponsored by USA Swimming and presented by TYR, a U.S. manufacturer of competitive swimwear and gear.
More than 100 youth swimmers ages 9 and older have been invited to attend Friday’s clinic, where Tollakson will lead participants through drills he uses in his open-water training. There will also be a Q&A session, and Tollakson will sign autographs and pose for photos with participants.
The clinic is sponsored by Wells Fargo, Gold Sponsor of the TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines.
