This is the fifth year the former Drake basketball star and community activist will make the holidays happier for needy families
Each summer, former Drake University basketball star Jeff Hill holds his “Future All-American Basketball Camp” for kids at the John R. Grubb Community YMCA, located in one of Des Moines’ most economically distressed neighborhoods. Five years ago, he decided to expand his community activism by helping out neighborhood families at the holiday time, too.
This Friday, December 20, Hill – with the help of friends, volunteers and business donors – will hold his fifth annual Christmas Celebration at the Grubb Y. Hill will distribute 150 free turkeys, plus 15 families recommended by area churches and social service agencies will receive food, clothing and toys to help make their holidays brighter.
Santa and The Grinch will be on hand, and there will be food and music to make the event more festive.
