Our Aquatics Center is named "The Charlotte Broderick Natatorium" in honor of the late Charlotte Broderick who, with her husband Phil, donated the land on which our Waukee Family YMCA is currently located. We are very thankful for their donation and the impact we are able to make in our community because of their generosity!
The Waukee Family YMCA Aquatics Center offers something for every age and ability! From Water Babies and Youth Group Lessons to Triathlon Swim or Water Exercise classes for active older adults - there is something for everyone in our aquatics facility! Because drowning is the second leading cause of death in children ages 5-14, we strive to be a leader in drowning prevention in our community by offering many swim programs for any age and any level of ability!
Our 8-lane Lap Pool, with its cooler temperature (approx. 79 - 82 degrees), is perfect for a swimmer of any level of ability. Stairs allow easy entry into the pool as well as a chair lift for handicapped accessibility if needed. Backstroke flags and competitive blocks are additional features as the Waukee Family YMCA proudly supports our Waukee High School Warriors and YMCA Marlins competitive swim teams.
For the more adventurous, take a plunge from one of our three diving boards. We offer Diving classes to learn and refine diving skills. We also offer open diving times set aside just for FUN!
Swim Tests are required for children 14 and younger to enjoy the lap pool unattended (supervision by a parent or guardian 16 years or older is required regardless of passing the swim test for all children under 9 years old).
The Recreation Pool is a family-friendly pool with a zero depth entry ramp, fun fountains and even a waterfall. The recreation pool also features warm water (approx. 85-86 degrees), seating in front of relaxing jets, and a maximum depth of 4'6". It is perfect for family fun or just those who love warmer water! Youth Group Swim Lessons, Private Lessons and Water Exercise classes are all held at various times and days in our Recreation Pool.
At the Y, children become safe and confident in the water, learning to swim in a positive, fun manner that builds lifelong skills. Research shows formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children ages 1-4 years. We offer a wide range of options for the whole family with classes beginning at 6 months of age to active older adults. Lessons are available year-round with morning, evening and weekend classes.
