Liz Pierce, a married mother of two, somehow manages to get to the Y an average of six times a week. How does she make it a priority? “I look forward to working out,” Liz explains. “It helps my body and my mind, it is a stress reliever, and it relaxes me.” While she’s on the cardio and strength equipment, her daughters Evelyn, 4, and Fiona, 2, spend time in the Learn & Play Center or in Children’s Studio classes.
“It helps my body and my mind, it is a stress reliever, and it relaxes me.”
In the past year, Liz has worked incredibly hard and lost 130 pounds! Although the accomplishment is all hers, she gives the Walnut Creek YMCA, which she joined four and a half years ago, a bit of credit for her success. “I know a lot of people and that helps me to be comfortable at Walnut Creek. Other gyms are intimidating.”
Because of our financial assistance program, Liz’s family has been able to access the Y through a scholarship. “I wouldn’t be able to come to the Y without the assistance,” she says. Because of the scholarship, Liz is also able to register her daughters for programs like swim lessons, tumbling and Parents Night Out.
Liz says she loves how her girls have been able to have new experiences and grow up at the Y. She says that their family membership is a need, not a want. “It helps me be the best person that I can be.”
