Next time you see Scott around the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus, make sure to give him a big warm welcome! He's a new face at YSHC, only having moved in a little over a month ago.
Scott was born in North Carolina but grew up in Ames, Iowa after his parents moved there while he was a baby. Eventually he moved to Des Moines.
Staying with different people all the time, Scott was living a stressful life without a stable place to live. He wanted to get his life back on track to find some peace of mind. Scott heard good things about the YSHC and decided to make the community his home. When asked what he likes most about the campus he replied, "The friendly people, fun activities and good food!"
His goal while living at YSHC is to learn how to budget his money and increase his life skills so he can successfully live on his own one day. He's excited to work with his case manager every step of the way to achieve his goals.
Describing himself as creative, smart and athletic, Scott enjoys playing poker, watching sports (his favorite teams are the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Cubs and ISU Cyclones), and participating in the Special Olympics.
Ask him about his business and he'd be proud to share that he's an entrepreneur and has been selling tie dye shirts, sweatshirts, decorative pillows and jewelry for the last couple years.
