Our Commitment to Child Protection

The YMCA of Greater Des Moines encourages adults and organizations in the community to play a vital role in making our community a safer place for children. When adults know how abuse happens, see the warning signs, and respond quickly to prevent abuse, they foster a culture of child abuse prevention.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Providing a safe environment for every person a YMCA engages – especially children – is essential to the Y’s mission, our reputation, and our viability as a youth-serving organization. Therefore, the YMCA enforces a zero tolerance policy for any type of abuse or mistreatment. Employees, volunteers, members, and program participants will be held to the same standard. The YMCA’s commitment to safety is demonstrated through safety processes and procedures established to reduce risk for the people we serve, and for the YMCA.
