June 29, 2023

Dear YMCA Members,

Thank you for being a member of the YMCA. As a Y member, you belong to more than a gym – you belong to a nonprofit organization dedicated to building healthy spirit, mind and body for everyone in our community for more than 150 years.

The COVID-19 pandemic and its aftereffects have made the last three years difficult for many individuals and organizations in our community, including the YMCA. The Y suffered through the loss of almost 40% of our members and 60% of our membership and program revenue in 2020. But today, we are proud to report that we have worked our way back to pre-pandemic levels of programming, and 2023 is shaping up to be an outstanding year for membership growth. Credit for this goes to our dedicated staff and volunteers and the support of members like you.

One of the economic effects of the pandemic has been an increase in inflation, resulting in higher prices for virtually all goods and services. We know you’ve seen it in your own household budgets, and we see it every day at the Y. To keep pace with rising expenses, attract and retain the best staff, and continue to reinvest in our facilities and programs, we find it necessary to increase our membership rates for the first time since 2018. See the chart below for a comparison of current rates and new rates that go into effect August 1.

As always, we welcome your input into how we can better serve you. If tough economic times are causing financial hardship for you, remember that the Y offers financial assistance to make the cost of membership more affordable. Visit our website or ask the Welcome Center staff for more information on the financial assistance options available to members.

Once again, we want to thank you for being a member of the Y, and for your ongoing support of our cause. Together, we’re creating a stronger, healthier community where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.

Sincerely,

Cameron Nicholson, Interim CEO
