YMCA of Greater Des Moines Receives 2023 Grant Funding From USA Swimming Foundation, May 2023

USA Swimming Foundation Grant Recipient 2023

Grant supports efforts to offer free or reduced-cost swim lessons

The YMCA of Greater Des Moines was chosen as one of 35 adult programs from the USA Swimming Foundation’s nationwide network of swim lesson providers to receive grant money in early 2023. The grant award will go toward our continued efforts to provide free or reduced-cost swim lessons. The USA Swimming Foundation has awarded a total of $647,522 to programs across the country.

With the support of the USA Swimming Foundation, we will be able to provide reduced-cost Adult Learn to Swim programming to 47 participants who are low-income, older adults, and adults with children in our current youth to swim programs. Adult Learn to Swim programs are essential to drown-proof our community and provide a healthy fitness avenue for adults.

The USA Swimming Foundation vetted more than 340 applications through a competitive annual review process and chose 69 youth and 35 adult programs to receive funding.

“The USA Swimming Foundation is thrilled to provide funding to adult learn to swim providers,” USA Swimming Foundation Senior Director of Development Elaine Calip said. “It is never too late to learn how to swim, and we owe a tremendous thank you to our partners and donors who continue to make a difference in our mission of Saving Lives, Building Champions and Impacting Communities.”

Thousands of adults have received the lifesaving gift of swim lessons through the USA Swimming Foundation swim lesson provider network and U.S. Masters Swimming organization. To learn more, visit www.usaswimming.org/foundation.
